10 Books I meant to Read in 2018

Hello! Hope you’ve been having a good week! Mine has been quite relaxed, but my friends came round for pizza on Friday, which was fun, although I was in charge of catering and the evening ended with my friends driving back via Dominos- that’s all you need to know.

Oh and in exciting blogging news I will hopefully be posting my first author interview this week! Hope it goes ok!

But on with the post and am I the only one who’s feeling slightly judged?! I’m sorry I failed you 2018 debuts 😭

1. Legendary

Although it did come out last year I’m weirdly glad I didn’t read it because my friend got me a beautiful hardback copy for Christmas which I have just finished- watch this space because the review is imminent, I NEED to fangirl.

2. The Cruel Prince

How have I not read this yet?! The sequel is about (or has??) to come out and I still have no idea what the hype was about.

3. Strange the Dreamer

I met the author at YALC and have a signed copy of this novel glaring at me from my shelf. Ssshhh I’ll get to it soon.

4. Sky in the Deep

I really had been wanting to read this, because hello Vikings. It will join the hoardes of books on my endless tbr.

5. Everless

There was so much hype for this novel at YALC and I honestly left with the best of intentions to read it. Now it’s 2019 and well, oops.

6. The Belles

I have heard mixed reviews but I still want to pick up this 2018 bestseller. And the author was at YALC which further piqued my interest. Maybe this year?

7. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Vertue

The title of this one always made me think it was MG for some reason. I have been recommended it lately, and have heard it’s quite good so hopefully I’ll pick it up this year. It’s sequel hit the shelves in 2018 and I just completely failed.

8. Love Simon

With the movie being big I did mean to pick up the book (which I think has a different title? Not sure if it underwent the rebrand too). Maybe this year!

9. Things a Bright Girl can do

I don’t remember when I brought this and which YALC I got it signed at but it is constantly glaring from my shelf.

10. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

The film came out on Netflix and I have a rule to always read the book first (don’t even ask). It’s not really the sort of book I’d read but maybe I’ll try it this year? Or possibly just watch the film 😝

Let’s Compare Notes

What 2018 books passed you by? Any big releases go completely over your head? Would love to hear from you in the comments, and feel free to drop a link to your own list!

  1. Love, Simon was cute! I ended up liking the film more than the book (I know, what???), but they really did an A+ job with the cast and overall adaptation.

  2. Great list! The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is really fun and I loved the companion novel, The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, even more. The Cruel Prince made my list this week, too, and I still need to get to Strange the Dreamer!

  3. Lol we must be opposites, because I actually read a lot of the books you listed here last year! I read:
-The Cruel Prince– this lives up to the hype. Please read. I’m actually just about to pick up the sequel…

-Sky in the Deep– I thought this was a very interesting read (tho The Cruel Prince & Simon vs. are a billion times better)

-Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda- another one that lives up to the hype!

-To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: not really my type of book either but trust me it’s so cute and funny; it’s such a fun read. I actually read this book twice last year 😂

Here’s my TTT post if ya wanna check it out:

      1. Yay! ❤
Hmmm, out of those 4, I'd have to say that The Cruel Prince was my fav! Simon vs. is a close second tho (the main reason it's not my #1 is b/c im a fantasy person 😉 )

      2. Hmm, I would say that the romance/attraction element is relatively minor. The book is definitely primarily focused on Jude’s ambitions and goals.
Ahhh, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the book when ya pick it up!
(and yessss, fantasy for the win!)

  4. Yay, I’m so glad you loved Legendary-me getting you that for Christmas may have been a little selfish on my part, because I needed someone to fangirl with! Weirdly, I actually haven’t read most of your list this week, I read and loved Legendary (obviously), Things A Bright Girl Can Do (it’s good, not the best historical fiction I’ve ever read, but decent enough) & Everless (really enjoyed) but the rest I haven’t. Strange The Dreamer and Gentleman’s Guide I’m planning on reading this year. The Belles I couldn’t get into, but maybe you’ll have better luck. The Cruel Prince I keep seeing but I’m not sure if I want to read, and I’ve seen both the films for Love, Simon and To All The Boys I Loved Before but haven’t read the books (I know, I know).

    1. It was so good 😍 well it worked! I am in need of some fangirling after that ending 😮 reading week? 😝 You suggested Strange the Dreamer to me I think haha I have heard good things though. I assume The Cruel Prince is good given how many recommendations I’ve had, although I think it’s quite romance heavy 🤔 tbh I might just watch the film’s too, not convinced the books are realllllly my thing 😝

      1. Ha ha definitely! Maybe, althought I haven’t actually read it yet. Yeah, for the most part all I’ve heard people talking about in The Cruel Prince is the romance, but I assume there must be more to it than that. Tbh, I’m not sure the books would be your thing either, but you never know.
