What Are you Reading Wednesday

Hey! How’s your week been? I’ve just arrived back at uni after a slightly unproductive but really fun Easter holiday (I had a whole month off… it was wonderful) and am now getting into the nitty gritty of uni life once again. With my dissertation due in just 2 weeks I am very busy!

I’m trying something slightly new here- it’s a fun meme called What are you Reading Wednesday, hosted by Marissa, Kendall and Rhianna. It’s where you answer 5 questions on your current read and then share the link to get involved! I’ve been told it’s ok to be reading the same book for several weeks in a row, which is good considering I’m such a slow reader!

So here’s my current read: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

It’s a book about a young, clairvoyant woman who leaves school to become a battle hardened criminal on the streets of future London, undermining the ruthless regime that threatens to kill clairvoyants like her. Only things don’t go so well for her when she’s captured by the regime she hates and discovers they’re a puppet government for a much more sinister force…

1. Why did you decide to pick up this book – cover or content?

Content! The cover is quite dull (a flower on a white background…) but the novel itself has been great! I also got recommended it by my book bestie Jo, who has impeccable taste.

2. Who is your favourite character so far, and why?

I’ll go with Liss. Although not as brave or as strong as our feisty protagonist, I like how Liss seems to really care about everyone. And I feel like she does rebel against the regime, in her own private way.

3. Will you finish this one?

Yup! It might take me ages since it’s a thick book with tiny print, but I’m planning on persevering.

4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of… (other books, movies, tv shows…)

Going to sound random but it reminds me a bit of Septimus Heap! Not the magic system or writing style, but I always imagine the residences and the place where Liss lives to be similar to the ramblings in Septimus’s castle. Squalid and packed, with food served in covered markets. Everything is also really old (being Oxford!) which is also like the castle.

5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,…)

Slow and interesting I’d say. It’s quite long, but there’s lots of action and dialogue scenes to break it up. It takes a while for the plot to progress, so in that sense it is slow, but it’s not boring!

So that’s the end of What are you reading Wednesday for this week! I’m thinking of starting another meme on my blog as well and then deciding which one I’d like to keep going (possibly both!) so feel free to make some suggestions for that one! And I’m a bit of a novice so if I’m doing this meme thing wrong please say!

I’ll probably have another review up later this week and hopefully another bookish post(ooh)! What are you guys reading? Have your own post? As always, be great to hear from you in the comments section!
