Winter tbr Results

The topic is supposed to be based around something audio (audiobooks, podcasts, songs) and I would love to tell you all this is really on topic and all of these are audiobooks, but they’re not. I mean what even are ears for? Despite having worked in radio I don’t listen to all that much stuff 😝 I’ve also worked in sport so let’s just assume my job’s never correlate…

Although I’m actually looking forward to getting some suggestions on things to listen to: I’ve only listened to one audiobook- Circe- and handful of podcasts so I’d love to try more, but as I’m not a big listener, I’m just going to do a winter tbr recap instead.

1. Alex and Eliza

I read it! It was terrible but I still read it!

2. Things a Bright Girl can Do

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

And this one! Although I really enjoyed it, unlike Alex and Eliza.

3. Northanger Abbey

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I also polished off this one! It was ok, not my favourite Austen but still pretty good.

4. Perfect

Well we knew I couldn’t be on a roll for too long. Sequel to Flawed and permanently on the tbr 🙄 maybe one day I’ll finish this series…

5. Legendary

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Can I have Finale now please?

6. The Raven King

Woops, they never found that king.

7. Rose Under Fire

✔️
Currently Reading! Well ish, I may have put it on hold when I got on the blog tour for Muse of Nightmares (have I banged on about that enough yet?), but we’re still going to count it.

8. The Mime Order

I read The Bone Season so long ago, like who even is Paige?

9. Fawkes

Sadly this one wasn’t on my local libraries system so it was a bit of a non starter.

10. Crown of Midnight

I may have been in no rush to return to the disappointing world of Caelena Ska-something (how do you even spell it?!).

Let’s Compare Notes

So there you have it! I completed 50% of them, which is a sweet 2:2 😜 have you read any of these? Make a tbr of your own? Have any audio suggestions so I can be slightly more on topic in the future? Feel free to drop an opinion or list in the comments section!

How I did with my TBR

First things first, it is of course Christmas so very happy Christmas!! Hope you are having a fun filled day but don’t stress out too much if it’s not, because you have this great (ish) blog post to cheer you up!

Anyway, the topic for this Top Ten Tuesday was books I want to receive under the tree, but I suspect I’ll only receive one book this year – Legendary, thank you very much good friend Jo- so thought I’d take a final look at my Fall TBR and assess how well I did.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

⭐⭐⭐

I finally know what all the hype was about! Well, I don’t actually because I didn’t think this novel was that amazing but I’ve been told the series gets better and will be reading the next one as part of my Winter TBR!

2. The Railway Man by Eric Lomaz

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I absolutely loved it! The only non fiction book I read this year (if we’re not including stuff for university, which we’re not) and it was amazing. I’m going to try read more non fiction next year I think, since this was so good.

3. The Raven King by Maggie Steivfater

Whoops.

4. A Gathering of Shadows by VE Schwab

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m currently reading this! So yeah I’m going to count it as a sort of success and do something I’ve not done before and pre rate. Providing it doesn’t suddenly become horrendous this is my predicted rating!

5. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I just published my review for this and gave it all the stars because it was amazing 😍

6. Magnus Chase and The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan

⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed this novel, but wasn’t crazily blown away. Also I had a dream about being forced to marry a troll last night and for some reason fended off this prospect by attacking said troll with water bending, so possibly it was more impactful than I give it credit for 🤔

7. Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamiliton

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This novel was amazing! I loved the plot, the writing, the characters. But had to dock the star because it felt a bit rushed and I wasn’t a fan of how Leila turned out (there can be strong, female antagonists too right?! They don’t all have to be the good guys.)

8. The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

It’s on my Winter TBR so let’s not give up all hope just yet.

9. Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz

Can you tell where I got up to on this list? Hehe oops.

10. Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein

I want to read more historical fiction next year actually (I’m thinking of making a post with 2019 reading goals and this will be one of them, but that largely depends on how busy my new year is…) So yeah, hopefully I’ll read this this winter and definitely some point in 2019!

Let’s Compare Notes

So what have you read these last few months? Have you tried any of these? Do you agree with my ratings? Would love to hear from you or read your list so feel free, as always, to drop a link or opinion in the comments section!

Winter TBR

Tuesday is nearly over but there’s still time to sneak in a Top Ten! Brought to you from the skies as I’m flying back from holiday while typing this! I’ve had such a great holiday exploring markets and castles in the Highlands with my friends.

This week’s topic is Winter TBR. It’s probably a little late in the year to be writing a winter tbr considering how far through the season we are (I’ve already had snow so I’d say winter is well and truly here), but I’d still like to list the books I’m hoping to finish this season!

1. Alex and Eliza

Top of the list but I really want to read this before I go to see Hamilton in February (aaaaahhhh!). So yeah must read this winter.

2. Things a Bright Girl can Do

Been on the tbr for ages but I feel if I don’t read it soon I’ll loose interest and never read it! Let’s hope I can tick it off this winter!

3. Northanger Abbey

Dry, cynical Jane Austen commenting about women’s place in her day? Yep, definitely for me. And my pen pal has been screaming at me to read it for ages.

4. Perfect

I loved reading Flawed recently, it was fantastic. I can’t wait to read Celestine’s final chapter in Perfect. Bring on the dystopian.

5. Legendary

My friend got me a copy for Christmas and I’m all but struggling to stop myself diving into it right now! I absolutely loved Caravel.

6. The Raven King

Because I still haven’t managed to see if they find their Welsh King, despite having it on my Fall TBR.

7. Rose Under Fire

This has been stewing on my tbr for way too long. I really want to read it! Although possibly not around Christmas time since I’ve heard it’s quite sad.

8. The Mime Order

The last on my fall tbr that I didn’t get through. Hopefully winter is the season for this read!

9. Fawkes

I was chatting to my friend about this novel today and she said it would definitely be my sort of thing. And as a girl who never fails to offer good book recommendations I have decided to try request it at the library and give it a read.

10. Crown of Midnight

Second (I think) in the Throne of Glass series I’m hoping to give it a read soon. I didn’t enjoy Throne of Glass massively but I’ve been advised to stick with the series, they get better.

Let’s Compare Notes

So there you have it! The books I’m hoping to read this season! Have you read any of them? Any recommendations? Have a winter tbr of your own? Feel free to drop an opinion or link in the comments section!
