Fantastic Books and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Books And Where to Find Them

I am a fortunate bookworm in that I am surrounded by other bookworms, many of whome have excellent taste in books, incredibly kind hearts and buy very pretty and enjoyable reads. And these wonderful, wonderful bookworms are kind enough to lend me books and recommend me reads. Here’s a list of books I’ve acquired and read this year not from the library or the very friendly woman in the local bookshop.

Stalking Jack the Ripper

1 I read this last month after a friend leant me a copy. Slightly gruesome and very intriguing I’m very grateful to have been leant a copy!

Vengeful

2 I would have been very sad to wait for the sequel to Vicious after loving the first book. Luckily my friend spontaneously leant me a very pretty copy, including the handy string bookmark and hardback cover with the pretty lightning bolts on a black and white motif. She even carted it all the way to France, with Ryan Air’s baggage limit!

Heartless

3 Besides loving the story, because yes who doesn’t want to read the decent of a young woman into angry madness who just wants to chop off everyone’s heads, the cover is gorgeous with those red leaves and silhouetted queen.

The Handmaid’s Tale

4 I got the Audiobook of this from a publisher! I loved it and highly recommend it to any adult dystopian fans out there.

Red Queen

5 Another book from another pal. I wasn’t that big a fan of this novel but am very thankful my friend leant me a copy. Scathing reviews are fun to write.

Caraval

6 I didn’t read Caraval this year but I’ve included it on the list because I Bookstagrammed it. A lot. I feel it needed a mention, one last time, when it disappeared back to my friends shelf forever earlier this year.

The Dream Thieves

7 I’ve been rereading the Raven Cycle books over the last few months and am often reminded how fun they were to read first time around, quite a few years ago, borrowed off a friend. Who may have leant me quite a few books on this list…

Muse of Nightmares

8 Another book I got from a publisher! This is the first one I ever got and it was a very pretty hardback with orange stained pages and silver painted bird thing on the front. So pretty 😍

All Quiet on the Western Front

9 This novel, which I read back in February or something crazy, was stolen off my boyfriend and made a thought provoking new year read.

The Way Past Winter

X A very generous friend gave me many second hand books which I am yet to read, including Poet X and The Sun is Also a Star, and this little mg that I did manage to finish!

Let’s Compare Notes

So there you have it! All the borrowed books I’ve read this year. Well, maybe not all, but all the ones I know off the top of my head. What books have you borrowed this year? Do you have equally generous friends? Do you also have a thankful Top Ten Tuesday? Leave a link or comment below!

  1. Great list! I don’t tend to borrow books off friends that often because I’m such a mood reader that I worry they wouldn’t get it back for ages, but it looks like you’ve been able to borrow some amazing books. I keep meaning to read The Handmaid’s Tale – maybe I’ll give the audiobook a go!
