10 Authors You Should All Try

Standing in the library, admiring the rows of glossy covers and plastic coated hardbacks, flicking through to the odd front page or blurb, a handful of thoughts flutter through my mind. Has the book been passed around the limelight of the book blogging world, would the cover photo well on Bookstagram, if I can ever get this silly plastic coating off, does it sound good, do I like the author, is there a castle in it… Then I usually get distracted and think about castles for a bit, but you get the picture. In fact, I am now pretty distracted, as I’m sure you are too.

The point (although subtly told) is that there are some authors I will always just read. They’re so good their new books get the priveldge of entering my tbr just from reputation alone. And here, for Top Ten Tuesday, is a nice list of ten of my auto-loan (because we’re in a library, not a bookshop, get with it people) authors.

1 If you follow me here, Bookstagram or Twitter you’ll know that 50% of what I talk about is A Darker Shade of Magic. And the other 50% is castles and chocolate milkshakes. Let’s not get get distracted again here, people. I recently brought Vicious, featured in this post, and I just hope this fabulous author doesn’t let me down.

Laini Taylor

2 Between the captivating worlds of Strange the Dreamer and Daughter of Smoke and Bone I will pretty much pick up anything Taylor writes.

Alwyn Hamiliton

3 Can we just have another rebellion, set in a dessert, full of guns and power and captivating legends that crush you inside because it’s the tragic tale of your favourite character. Actually, maybe I don’t want another Alwyn Hamilton book…

Maggie Steivfater

4 I say I’d read anything by her, since I absolutely loved The Raven Boys and feel like a committed fan given I waited 4 hours to get my copy signed, but I’ve heard her other books aren’t as good. Oh well, I’ll probably try them anyway.

Angie Thomas

5 The Hate U Give was so important and well written, I’ll read literally anything Thomas writes. Except maybe a shopping list.

Rick Riordan

6 My go to when I need a good laugh and happy reminder of my childhood favourite. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we got a book for older readers about demigods at university? Anyone else think that would be cool?

Alexandra Christo

7 After loving To Kill a Kingdom I’m officially a big fan of Christo’s writing. And her next book, which I can’t actually remember what it’s about, sounded good. I think.

Suzanne Collins

8 Remember how we all loved The Hunger Games and were heart broken by Mockingjay and then a successful set of films were made and, thank goodness, Collins didn’t start adding random stuff or making spin offs to the point of stupidly? Well now, in this slightly confusing and not particularly accurate tale, we’re getting a prequel! And yes, I am more than ready to have my heart broken again from this incredible author. But please, be gentle.

Brigid Kimmet

9 I mean, preferably it would be the sequel to A Curse so Dark and Lonely but I’ll take what I get. Her stories are excellent.

Madeline Miller

X Because Greek myth retellings are just too cool to not read more of. Also we’ve not gone Roman Numerals because it’s topical, it’s because it would only let me enlarge one letter and the giant 1 in 10 looked odd. Silly WordPress blocks.
